Presentation on breaking RSA encryption using Quantum Computers
Hi I’m Chirag Madaan.
I do a lot of AI and Cryptography. I’m currently building the Shipment Tracking platform at PayPal and have previously designed protocols securing 10,000+ hardware wallets at Cypherock1. Here’s a bit more about me before I show you my work:
- I call myself a generalist because I do anything and everything wherever problems are most interesting.
- I have an unrealistic wish to learn ALL the art, science, math, music, architecture and philosophy in the world.
- I approach problems from first principles and believe that every problem has at least one acceptable solution.
- Beyond building, I LOVE teaching. I’ve delivered many sessions on technical topics at PayPal and my university with audiences of 200+ people.
- I often think about consciousness, technology, its impact and our future, and I’m excited to share some of my thoughts through this blog.
Some of My Major Work
AI & Automation
1. B-Hunter: Penetration Testing AI Agent (2023)
- ReAct based LLM-powered agent to automatically detect web security vulnerabilities.
- The agent acts as a bug bounty hunter and uses penetration testing tools to plan, reconnaissance, exploit and generate a testing report automatically.
- Won 1st place among 100+ participants in PayPal’s internal hackathon.
2. Hidden: Hardware HID Module for Voice Accessibility2 (2023)
- Allows complete control over any computer through voice without installing any software.
- Uses voice models and LLMs to parse complex multi-turn speech into keyboard and mouse instructions and injects them through the HID module.
- Aimed to help differently-abled people, while also looking very cool in action.
- Won VIT’s hardware Make-a-thon • Recognized by Danfoss.
3. API Migration Agentic Workflow (2025)
- A semi-automated AI workflow to migrate PayPal’s shipping aggregator’s legacy API connection to the new versioned API.
- Requires minimal human in the loop • Migrated code now in production.
4. Shipping Carrier Recommendation Solution (2023)
- Suggests shipping carriers to merchants for more reliable delivery based on various parameters.
- Won the 2nd place in PayPal’s Curioso hackathon.
Security & Cryptography
1. OAuth Library for MCP Servers (2025)
- Library for MCP Servers to allow users to login through PayPal and access PayPal’s services.
- The flow implemented is in compliance with OAuth2.1 flow as described in the MCP specification.3
- Recognized by PayPal’s CTO in his email newsletter.
2. Cryptography Research on TSS using AHE4 (2024)
- Published a paper on building decentralised access control solution for group digital asset management.
- Developed a novel multi-group architecture for secure threshold signature generation.
- Uses an optimized three-round threshold signature scheme, additive homomorphic encryption, and zero-knowledge proofs.
3. Remote Wallet Provisioning Protocol (2024)
- Designed and implemented a cryptographic protocol to securely provision new Cypherock hardware wallets with keys remotely from USA to Indian packaging site.
- Secured 10,000+ Cypherock X1 devices till now with zero security incidents to date.
4. MPC Threshold Signature Scheme on Cypherock X1 (2024)
- Low-level C firmware implementing MPC-based Threshold Signature Scheme on embedded hardware.
- Powers secure multi-party computation on resource-constrained Cypherock X1 hardware wallet to allow groups to own digital assets together.
5. Anonymous Online Voting System (2021)
- Secure voting system using custom implementation of Linkable Spontaneous Anonymous Group Ring Signatures.
- Ensures voter privacy while preventing double-voting.
- Project got an S grade for novelty.
Other Projects
1. Atomic Events Android SDK (2024)
- Led the project and delivered it end to end from designing the HLD to planning the architecture to the implementation to the final release.
- Allows android teams to have observability across customer interactions on the PayPal app.
- Integrates with all internal observability platforms.
2. PayPal Confluence Redirector (2024)
- Browser extension that automatically redirects old broken confluence links before PayPal’s migration, to new ones very quickly.
- Currently used by 400+ people.
3. RTT Migration (2023)
- Migrated PayPal’s Real Time Shipment Tracking functionality to a new more optimised and maintainable Java backend architecture.
